Take a homebuyer education class

We require all of our homebuyers to complete a pre-purchase, HUD-certified education class.  This class consists of eight hours in the classroom and is offered through multiple partner organizations in Columbus.  Through these classes, you will learn: how to apply for a mortgage loan, mortgage loan products, how to budget to buy a home, understanding credit scoring, loan analysis, and the closing process. Talk to a lender and qualify for a 30 year, fixed rate mortgage.

In order to purchase a Healthy Home, buyers must obtain a 30-year fixed rate mortgage. Healthy Homes will require a pre-approval letter be sent once the home is in contract.

Review Income Qualifications for the program

Healthy Homes requires that most of our homes are sold to households that are at or below 120% of area median household income. This chart describes the median household income (AMI) in the Columbus area for the year 2017. For reference below, household size means all persons permanently living in the house.  Household income means all income of persons over 18.

This application is required to verify your income and to collect demographic information for our funders.  The application can be sent directly to Healthy Homes or via your Realtor at the same time your purchase offer is submitted.

Homeport (http://www.homeportohio.org/) is a HUD Certified Housing Counseling Agency offering 10 hours of financial education workshops to improve your money management skills. Topics covered include: Budgeting, Savings, Banking, Credit, Taxes and Insurance, and Financial Planning. The class is covered over (2) Saturdays each month.
